Flat bottom design of the Explorer range are suited to river paddling, on flat water, with a more open design kayak, similar to a Canadian canoe.  They are longer and narrower, giving a faster top speed.

The V-bottom design of the Optimal range are the most capable of taking the knocks that come with using your kayak at sea.  they are tough and easy to right if you fall out.  they are rigid and stable, being wider than the Explorer range of inflatable kayaks.
